On 6th May 1999, the first election to the devolved Scottish Parliament took place, and 20 years later, on 9th May 2019, the Festival of Politics will bring together a panel of former Members to debate the Parliament’s achievements, the challenges to come, and progress still to be made. The Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament, the Rt Hon Ken Macintosh MSP, will chair what promises to be a lively session with former First Minister Henry McLeish former Presiding Officer Tricia Marwick former Leader of the Scottish Conservatives Baroness Annabel Goldie former Liberal Democrat MSP and MEP George Lyon former Green MSP Robin Harper We’ll be asking how effective the Parliament has been against its founding principles of openness, accessibility, accountability, and equality and will look back at the energy, passion and intellect that combined to shape Scotland’s constitutional journey in the early years.
